Communities of color, rural communities and youth are all communities that have been underserved and who we have the biggest gap to close in terms of building relationships and trust. Giving people a tangible tool that represents a two-way partnership and a direct way to communicate with us would be a benefit in and of itself. And telling more stories directly generated by the community would increase trust in those communities and yield meaningful stories that are useful, engaging and inspiring. Importantly, by soliciting solutions stories specifically, this indicates we get that there are stories of positive contribution in these communities, not just the kind of conflict or deficit stories that are seen and heard most often. This will lead to more truth/accuracy (telling the whole story of communities, not just the things that are going wrong) and more trust, and more trust will lead to a more financial spport.

What problem are we trying to solve for our communities with this experiment? How might it help us better serve them?

As as part of serving rural communities - and other traditionally underserved communities, we give them a way to directly enagage with OPB, providing story ideas about responses to problems in their neighborhoods and towns. They'll be able to suggest stories as well as sources - people who could tell us more. Some may be stories for the new show - others might yield podcast story ideas or Think Out Loud interviews.

I think we design the simplest version of the app, (like 5 questions, simple graphics, large clear buttons and other design features) launch it among core supporters in one communities as 3 month pilot, and iterate from there.
