With a strong restrictions function enabled, OPB would be protected from contract violations, or publishing unlicensed images. |

What problem are we trying to solve for our communities with this experiment? How might it help us better serve them?
OPB utilizes images from a wide range of creators outside of OPB. Those images/illustrations/renderings, etc., often come with licensing agreements, which may include use in specific stories, one-time use, or the use has since been discontinued for any number of reasons. It is important that these images be restricted from use in order to ensure OPB does not violate any licensing contracts, or use agreements. Protecting OPB can be done by enabling/building out PhotoCenter restrictions. Currently, the "restriction" function has little use. There are no clear parameters on who has permission to restrict an image or what that functionally actually is. There is no indicator in PHotoCenter that an image is restricted when adding an image from a story page. When an image is added to a story page, there is no indication for producers that the image is restricted. Removing restricted items from PhotoCenter is not an option, as it would delete the lawful use of those images in the stories they were licensed for. The solution would be to have a designated and limited group of users who: 1) can restrict items 2) can add restricted items to stories (with appropriate licensing/agreements in place) Restricted items should still be visible in PHotoCenter to allow staff to see the image, and possibly renew licensing or contract options should we want to use the image again. Would be worth exploring if all content coming in via API/NPR could be automatically restricted. Those images are for use ONLY with NPR content, so OPB is not able to use those images for our stories. This licensing agreement is regularly violated, despite training, 1:1 conversations. A system solution would be very beneficial. |

Lay out the potential project steps to the best of your ability, including key teams that would need to be consulted. This is your best knowledge of the systems, tools and lift that would be required.
Web Dev and photo editor would work together. I don't have an understanding of what this would entail. |
