Values Public Service
State your hypothesis, tying your project back to the impact it might have.
  • Hypothesis: Providing rapid-response, quality journalism to our election audiences to address election-night results will add to OPB's value in their news mix, amplify the value of our journalism, and provide increased stickiness for OPB to our audiences.

  • Hypothesis: By providing a dynamic multi-platform engagement (video livestream, video recording, and audio feeds) we will reach more than our typical audiences for PN and TOL. We will have an opportunity to engage audiences in the moment, and take some of their live questions.

  • Hypothesis: Allows us to also reach audiences outside of Portland with election "event" info that we hadn't done before.

Which metrics would you use to track the success of this project? We will use this as the foundation of our experiment design. (Optional)
  • Livestream: Views, clicks, shares, comments, net subscriber movement, avg view duration, other engagements

  • Recording: Opens, views, shares, comments, responses cross-platform

  • Podcast feeds: Downloads/streams

  • Additional metrics: Anecdotal feedback, responses and reactions coming to OPB across platforms, a desire for more of these types of engagements

  • logistical: person-hour lift required

  • technical: stream stability and integrity over OPB internal WiFi

What problem are we trying to solve for our communities with this experiment? How might it help us better serve them?
  • Providing rapid response coverage to election night results, possible implications it may have on our audience's lives.

  • Leveraging the audiences that have been following OPB's coverage during election season to see if this is one more way we can continue to serve them relevant content after election night.

  • Retaining our election season audiences (a broad objective from PAE since early elections discussions)

Circulating both Think Out Loud and Politics Now in a visual medium may reach new and different audiences than their typical daily/weekly audio audiences - and providing a dynamic experience could have further reach.

Lay out the potential project steps to the best of your ability, including key teams that would need to be consulted. This is your best knowledge of the systems, tools and lift that would be required.
