State your hypothesis, tying your project back to the impact it might have.

If we move the "Most Recent Stories" widget higher on the homepage and clean up its filtering logic to only show relevant content, users will have a more engaging and satisfying browsing experience, which will lead to increased click-through rates, better content consumption, and improved retention.

Which metrics would you use to track the success of this project? We will use this as the foundation of our experiment design. (Optional)

Click-through rate (CTR) for the widget

Bounce rate for homepage visitors

Content consumption rates for articles or posts shown in the widget

User feedback via surveys or heatmaps

Usability testing - Coordinate with Jenn F.

How many people are engaging relative to how many homepage visitors we have?

What problem are we trying to solve for our communities with this experiment? How might it help us better serve them?

Problem: The "Most Recent Stories" widget is currently located lower on the homepage, making it less visible to users. Additionally, the filtering logic may show outdated or irrelevant content, causing confusion and frustration for users looking for fresh and timely updates.

Solution: By moving the widget higher and refining the filters, we will improve visibility, ensuring users are presented with the most relevant and current content quickly, leading to a better user experience.

Lay out the potential project steps to the best of your ability, including key teams that would need to be consulted. This is your best knowledge of the systems, tools and lift that would be required.
  1. Research and analysis:

    • Review current filtering logic and identify areas for improvement.

    • Define the scope of the block. Local? National? Audio storytelling? What type of information want from us?

    • How does the block work in tandem with content curation?

    • Should it be powered by a collection if we are tightly curating it?

    • Analyze user behavior to determine the optimal placement on the homepage.

    • Collaborate with UX/UI designers and producers for the widget's placement.

  2. Design and development:

    • Move the widget higher on the page.

    • Revise backend logic to refine filters and remove outdated or irrelevant content.

    • Perform cross-browser and device testing to ensure performance is consistent across platforms. Check mobile responsiveness.

  3. Testing:

    • Conduct testing with the old and new widget placement to measure impact.

  4. Launch and monitor:

    • Monitor key success metrics (e.g., CTR, user feedback) to assess the impact.
