State your hypothesis, tying your project back to the impact it might have.
Creating an optional log-in would allow us to better understand how our most diligent users engage with the homepage and would give us a new way to identify and connect with them. By reducing pop-ups and member asks in exchange for creating a profile, it would also increase scroll depth and time on the journalism in our articles |

Which metrics would you use to track the success of this project? We will use this as the foundation of our experiment design. (Optional)
1-Number of log-in accounts created 2-Number of new membership prospects generated through account creation. 3-Story scroll depth to assess engagement with journalism (would need to start scoring this from the first sentence of a story, not from the top of the page -- member asks can take up multiple screens before people get to a story) |

What problem are we trying to solve for our communities with this experiment? How might it help us better serve them?
Create log-in access to OPB.org to allow people to get a better experience - no pop-ups, no fundraising solicitations. This would help us broaden our database of how current members use the homepage and identify prospects for future membership. And it would help our most diligent website fans have the best experience possible. Over time, this would also open the door to member engagement opportunities, and we could develop fun ways to incentivize creating accounts like interactive news quizzes. But that's a future idea. Staying focused on this log-in concept for now |

Lay out the potential project steps to the best of your ability, including key teams that would need to be consulted. This is your best knowledge of the systems, tools and lift that would be required.
I do think this is probably a reach goal / heavy lift, because we would need to have the infrastructure to allow people to log in and stay logged into the homepage. That sounds like a web development task. Would also need membership/development buy-in, digital content buy-in, and content support. |
