Audience generated story pitches for OPB content

My theory is that modern audiences want more of a reciprocal relationship with the news and content they engage with. Creating a platform much like this this web app platform, where audiences can pitch story ideas and then vote on them, would give us additional insights into what people want to see covered in their communities. It may also give content creators a more direct way to engage with audience members by picking up their suggestions and having them help shape stories.

Amount of ideas submitted. Amount of votes collected on story ideas. Execution of user generated ideas.

Increasing relevance of content generated and depth of engagement from the audience by allowing them to submit and vote on story ideas that the newsroom or other content departments should cover.

Creating a model like this would involve researching similar models that exist at other media organizations. We could then perhaps try a test model that includes outreach to existing members, email subscribers or distribution to community organizations representing audiences we'd like to reach.

Teams that would need to be involved would include content, web and digital.

Tools needed would be some kind of submission and voting platform, as well as a backend tool where stories could be reviewed and claimed by content creators.
